Canadian abstract artist Melanie Authier brings together vivid imagery and visual contradictions to her textured canvas works. By drawing upon the histories of abstraction and the strategies of representation, Authier presents a sense of disorientation by way in which color and shape take form. The Montreal native received a BFA from Concordia University and completed her MFA at the University of Guelph and has exhibited quite a bit throughout Canada over her artistic career. What I like most is her use of explosive, bold color that truly feels refreshing to see someone so young manifest intense visuals in a very approachable and fresh way.
