Back when I was a kid in New York, I was a HUGE Prince and Co. fan…every artist signed to his then popular independent label Paisley Park, I discovered and fell in love with The Family. The band consisted of St. Paul Peterson, Susannah Melvoin (Revolution guitarist Wendy’s sexy twin sister and Prince’s girlfriend at the time), Eric Leeds, Jellybean Johnson and the fun loving Jerome Benton. They only release one album unfortunately album back in 1985 which spawned the original version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “The Screams of Passion” but failed to gain much more steam and the album drizzled. Twenty six years later the band is back (minus Benton) with a new name and updated sound, now headlining due to legal reasons as FDELUXE. This record takes me back to all things Prince when Prince was good, FDELUXE does a fantastic job of modernizing their sound for today’s world but still maintaining the funky, sexy, sultry rhythms and orchestrated arrangements from the past. One of my favorites is “Lover” which features the ever so lovely Susannah on lead. Moody and loving, this track makes me happy! Hope you like as much as I do.

Check out the latest video for Sebastien Tellier’s “Pepito Bleu” from his upcoming album “My God Is Blue.” The 2001: A Space Odyssey / Avatar-esque video directed by Sanghon Kim and Mathieu Tonetti is captivating and shows Tellier in full beard and God-like stance and glowing eyes of blue (maybe he got the SPICE? ) above a crowd of believers. Per his request, He says “Don’t listen to my album; listen to my message. Enter into vibration with my music. Let’s merge our dreams, together spreading this communal energy in an immense blue wave that will wash over the world– and truth will emerge.” Word!

Evan Voytas first caught my attention last year with his stellar track “Tomorrow Night We’ll Go Anywhere,” which featured the one and only Kate Moss posing against a brick wall in headlights from a vintage car. The LA-based electro-pop multi-instrumentalist features five brand new tracks on his yet to be released new EP, Feel Me. The spaced-out, drum machine driven “Can’t Let Anybody Know Who You Are” is an infections, dreamy track with a catchy chorus. The EP is out at the end of January 2012. Looking forward to more from Voytas in the new year.

Ok, so you may have heard this track before but it’s creeped back into my life and is on heavy rotation! Give a listening to the Aeroplane remix of the 2002 ultra club hit, “The Sound of Violence” by Cassius which features the soulful vocals of Steven Edwards. Recently I discovered the amazingly visual, kaleidosopic artwork of French Artist Caspar while visiting a good friend of mine in Paris. The Cotes d’Armor born Caspar studied at the Pantheon Sorbonne and later at the Lycee LaMartine in Paris. His earlier works were more abstract and mainly consisted of oil on canvas pieces that were bold and unique in it’s presentation. His latest works are much more interactive, using video and other multi-media avenues to create an even broader view of life in maximum detail with the notion that the name Macro Batiks comes from the concept of macro and micro visuals, all infinitely great and infinitely small.
