Check out this stellar debut single from London-born singer / songwriter Shura who first made waves with Hiatus on his atmospheric album, ‘Parklands.’ “Touch” is the next level – a bittersweet song about the moment one realizes the person you are with isn’t the right one and how difficult that situation can be. Set with a tinge of melancholic emotion, “Touch” happily glides along like a Blood Orange meets Haim produced track while Shura’s silky vocals soar in a very catchy chorus. It’s definitely a throwback to the 80′s slow jam vibe but repackaged with a gloaming backbeat and enveloping chillwave undulations. Happy to finally see new work and hopefully a full length release coming soon.

“…Distance makes the heart grow, even when I’m lonely. Happy knowing that your love is never far when we are apart.” The soulful Grammy-nominated Emily King swoons on her newest single, “Distance.” Now a free agent without a label (big shame), the singer / songwriter brings back her signature style of organic r&b /folk vibes with her insightful song writing and on point musicianship. Bringing back that late 70′s soul sound, King gives you a bit of Janis Ian meets Minnie Riperton and I can’t help but revel in it all. Take a listen and let me know what you think and while your at it, pick up a copy of her 2011 ‘Seven’ EP – You’ll definitely have it on repeat!

Take a moment to check out these stunning abstracts by Atlanta based Artist Ryan Coleman. Locked with bold color and a heady sophistication, Coleman’s cloud-like artwork is usually produced in oversized canvas or paper formats that feature his fixation on the mystery of abstraction. The Jacksonville, Florida native graduated with a BFA in painting from the Atlanta College of Art and states that with each piece, he allows the paint to drip and mix with his color scheme to create his vibrantly beautiful presentations. Coleman’s style of art is inspired by combining elements of cartoons, nature, graffiti, design & painting history which mirrors the vast mysteries of creation and the natural world.
Roisin Murphy takes us to church and does it again with her very distinctive soulful vocals on Freefrom Five’s latest single, “Leviathan.” Freeform Five aka Anu Pillai is back with a new single after releasing a few stellar dance induced singles. On this track, Pillai, gives a hard hitting dance track with a strong dose of house to swallow, washing it down with Roisin’s killer vocals. Can’t miss this one as it’s ALWAYS a good match when Roisin’s on the mic!
FREEFORM FEAT. ROISIN MURPHY – LEVIATHAN
Sold exclusively at Barney’s New York, the Big Apple based footwear brand Strange Matter has just released four killer styles for men and women. The unisex line of funky fresh kicks is big with the minimal design look and extra sharp on the detailing. Made with calfskin and kid suede leather, these are sure to grab attention from footwear lovers all around the world! Keeping it simple with just four color ways in white, black, navy and tan, these are good for dressing up, chilling or just out and about town.
Loving this new track from LA based R&B crooner, Gallant called “Forfeit.” Produced by Felix Snow, the dreamy, chill-laxed song is fresh and breezy, much like this sunny SoCal day! A mix of Prince meets The Weeknd and a little George Michael, Gallant’s seductive falsetto is paired nicely over hazy acoustic guitar and smokey backbeat. His debut EP, ‘Zebra’ is set to appear sometime this year.
GALLANT – FORFEIT
O.M.Geezy Louisey! Check this ultra stylish Spring / Summer 2014 Circuit Print Backpack by Givenchy who does it again with yet another great season of top designed accessories to die for. The neoprene made rucksack features the very cool circuit print design with a double zip top closure. The bag also comes with a outer zip compartment, adjustable canvas trimmed silver-toned star detailed leather shoulder straps and a canvas top handle with leather base. No words can express how much I love this bag…the price, not so much.
What I love about British radio is the mix and wide range of songs featured to the masses. Take a listen to Irish singer /songwriter James Vincent McMorrow and his latest single “Cavalier.” McMorrow put himself into a remix while keeping his haunting falsetto voice. He’s ditched the folky, acoustic sound of his previous effort ‘Early In The Morning’ and has taken a more electronic, 808 sound for ‘Post Tropical.’ The result is a very good, cohesive direction and should put him on the map with the likes of James Blake, Bon Iver and Rhye. Also, check out the video for “Cavalier” – it’s dark, moody and intensely gorgeous.
JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW – CAVALIER
I’ve always been a fan of Lanvin’s clean and ultra stylish brand of menswear. House designer Lucas Ossendrijver intros a mix of easy streetwear looks with relaxed elegance and a touch of modernism in his collection for Spring / Summer 2014. While it’s still very much winter time out in the world, check out a few looks from the season’s campaign featuring Alexandre Faye, Jeremy Matos and Laurie Harding shot by top notch photographer, Steven Meisel.
As my top album release from 2013, Disclosure continues to bring it with this fresh off the press new remix version to their single, “F for You.” featuring the one and only Ms. Mary J. Blige. Blige simply kills it on this track and you really do feel what she’s preaching! A great house track from the U.K. duo’s winning album ‘Settle,’ the brothers Disclosure debuted the remix last weekend with the Queen of Hip Hop / Soul who joined them onstage to a live audience at their soldout show at New York’s Terminal 5. So bummed I missed that but check out the video filled with their signature face squiggles and wild splashes of bold color…Househeads be warned!
I’ll start off by saying that these new kicks from Dioniso are killin’ me! The Geometric 3D Eco-Leather Sneakers are finally now back in stock to order from the international online designer boutique Luisaviaroma.com. The uber stylish trainers feature the eco-friendly geometric leather design with reinforced metal eyelets, a rubber toe cap, cotton lining and traditional rubber sole. The Luisaviaroma website is a choice outlet to find and discover young designer talents sold side-by-side with some of the most famous established designer brands in the industry. The Italian based footwear brand Dioniso launched in 2009 and originally started out by taking worn Converse All-Stars and giving them a remix – #wantneedlove.
Check out this very Fleetwood Mac inspired track from The Night VI called “Thinking Of You.” The Anglo-Franco six piece that formed three years ago at the French Lycée in London has been on constant repeat over the last few days. Headed by lead vocalist Sophie Rose-Harper, the song is a mix of sad and happy as she sings of missing the one she loves while at the same time hating them for making her feel that way. “Thinking Of You” soars with romantic intrigue and you too will put it on repeat. Trust me, it’s that good! If you like Stevie Nicks, Feist or Joni Mitchell, The Night VI’s debut 4-track EP ‘Still Thinking of You’ is a jem and for sure a band to watch out for in 2014!
Check out this very visual and NSFW video from French mulit-instrumentalist Jackson Fourgeaud who records music under the name Jackson and His Computerband. Directed and created by the French team of visionaries, Mrzyk & Moriceau who take Jackson’s new single “G.I. Jane (Fill Me Up)” on an epic journey of wild animation and sexual fantasy gone haywire! The French directing duo worked with a team of five animators for two months to create the video for the Parisian’s second album ‘Glow‘ out last September which features guest vocals from Berlin’s Planningtorock and singer-songwriter Mara Carlyle. Mrzyk & Moriceau have created wild videos for fellow French artists Air and Sebastien Tellier all in a similar style. Sex and gore are featured with a faceless girl fighting against killer penises that appear from everywhere and is stated by Moriceau that this is a blatant comment to misogyny and female empowerment.
What a fantastic year for music, eh? This year, my favorites are a wide range of smoothed out soul, beat pumping dance and sticky sweet pop albums that you really don’t want to admit you like but simply can’t stop grooving to. With so many fresh and innovative singer / songwriters, duos and kickass bands that should be on this line up, it’s been a hard task to list them all. Take a peek and check out a great mix of pop, rock and r&b jamz infused with electronic touches that lead most of my listings for the Top 20 Best of 2013!

Check out this vivid and lively new lyric video from up and coming New York electro-pop duo, Cardiknox aka Thomas Dutton and Lonnie Angle. “Technicolor Dreaming” is the visual mashup of the best and straight-to-video movie posters from the ’80s mixed with totally random animation and graphics to polish it off. Cardiknox will for sure be ones to watch in 2014, mixing 80’s style beats and production with ferocious vocals and dynamic hooks. If you love Niki and The Dove, London Grammar and Florence + The Machine – check em out!
Finally getting to post this track from Dornik who first made waves earlier this year when label mate Disclosure tweeted about his previous debut release “Something About You” that screamed Michael Jackson incarnate. Now he’s released “Rebound,” his second single on PMR Records and it doesn’t disappoint. The UK based singer/producer keeps the R&B flavor channeling Prince circa 1984 in this heavy synth-pop dance tune that’s great for getting ready for this evening’s festivities. Full length record is said to be out sometime in 2014…In the meantime, pump it up!
DORNIK – REBOUND
Just in time for the Holidays and all those great New Years Eve parties…Check out this fab new Beat Collection from Spanish retail chain, Zara. Grounded in very fashionably forward styles, pattern, texture and materials – such as sequins, studs and leopard print, the range also plays with gender boundaries. Pieces influenced by a heightened sense of masculinity – biker jackets, bombers, leather waistcoats and cowboy shirts – are combined with influences from womenswear such as sequins and sparkle effects to create a juxtaposing look that combines the two extremes. Model Harry Uzoka kills it in these looks for the line and wears it well!
So happy to view this ultra cool video from Metronomy for their first single, “I’m Aquarius” taken from the forthcoming sophomore album “Love Letters” out on March 10th, 2014. In the video, Metronomy frontman Joe Mount travels through space to an alien planet featuring giant hairless cats and Star Trek worthy alien goddesses dressed in Gaultier-esque fashion. The visuals are stunning and the track is simply just great. Directed by Edouard Salier, the man behind Justice’s “Civilization” video takes us back to space with his latest intergalactic presentation for Metronomy.
Since it’s getting colder out there, peep this stellar track from Moko, a 21-year old electro-soul/ r&b singer from South East London. “Freeze” is only one of five killer songs featured on ‘Black’ her eagerly awaited debut EP. The song brings back that early 90′s break beat / trip hop sound placing her right up there with Shara Nelson and what she did for Massive Attack’s ‘Blue Lines’. I honestly just recently discovered Moko a few months ago from her slick vocal work with UK duo Chase & Status on their fantastic Top 5 single “Count On Me”. Now, she’s set to release a full length record sometime in 2014 with her already recognizable voice and signature afro-puff big tails, Moko will for sure be a tidal wave in music come next year.
MOKO – FREEZE
Check out this very unique take on the traditional Oxford from California based Thorocraft for Fall / Winter 2013. The Hampton-Mohawk is handcrafted from a woven cotton/poly blend that features a smooth pigskin inner lining and a raw un-dyed Vachetta leather detail on the heel that will wear nicely the more you get into them. Thorocraft is known for its modern footwear technology pared with bold style and classic silhouettes.
On this clear and sunny Autumn day here in Southern California, I present to you the latest from ex Cocteau Twins founder and bassist, Simon Raymonde and his new project Snowbird, the group he formed with singer Stephanie Dosen. Aside from running his label Bella Union which was originally formed to release Cocteau Twins albums and related projects after they departed the iconic 4AD label has changed direction once the “CT” broke up in 1997. Since then, Bella Union is home to an array of great bands – Flaming Lips, Fleet Foxes and Beach House to name a small few. The debut album ‘Moon’ (also on Bella Union) will be their first album of original material set to be released in January 2014. The first track “Porcelain” will for sure remind people of his former band with Dosen sounding slightly Elizabeth Frazer-like but dreamier. “Porcelain” kicks off with a chilly piano intro while Dosen coos and drifts along throughout. You can’t help but stop and want to dream her dream as she sings…or shall I say, floats! Take a listen and see forever…
SNOWBIRD – PORCELAIN
As a kid I loved comics and all the superhero cartoons and sitcoms but never thought I’d be so excited about this potential Christmas gift item targeted for those that like to ride. Check out this Batman-inspired motorcycle helmet from Helmet Dawg. The “Dark As Night” helmet is crafted in a plastic molding with black-on-black design and features a full-face motorcycle helmet as its base. The design team has added the pointed ears and browline accents (all made with impact-resistant plastics). Based on the GM48S Platinum series full face helmet, this version is eye-catching and yet fully functional so you can ride like a pro and take down the bad guys in a city near you!
Welsh singer / songwriter Rod Thomas, better known as Bright Light Bright Light (or BLx2) has just released a new EP to support his latest single, “In Your Care”. His quirky way of mixing the old school 80′s vibe with modern pop music made his debut album ‘Make Me Believe In Hope’ a success on both sides of the pond. Written and produced with long-term writing partner Jon Shave of The Invisible Men, “In Your Care” comes from a place of him missing his family back in the UK and now residing in the States. Deeply heartfelt, the original version kicks with its emotional lyrics and driving dance beat reminiscent of what you might expect to come from an EBTG track. Here, I’ve featured the scaled down piano version that drives deeper into your heart for all those that are away from the ones they love.
BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT – IN YOUR CARE
Check out the clean and stylish menswear collection from Italian label Mauro Grifoni for Fall / Winter 2013. Grifoni’s “Blue Fall” collection showcases sportswear with a pleasant color palette that highlights shades of blue with pops of red, grey and yellow. Infusing a chic approach to menswear with a rustic attitude; checks, camouflage and plaids also contribute to his fresh take on the usual menswear attire. Tapered trousers, quilted jackets and shirt jackets add a practical touch to the line.
Ok, who remembers these jams from back in the early 90′s? Taking the dance music charts by storm is UK based alterna-pop band Bastille with their first number one single “Of The Night” – a fantastic mashup of “The Rhythm Of The Night” by Corona and “Rhythm Is A Dancer” by Snap!. Both tracks ranked high on the UK pop dance charts and Bastille’s frontman Daniel Smith breathes new life into this version, making it all his own. Could it be that 90′s mashups with current pop artists who were only babies back then, is on the rise? Perfect for your Saturday Night party prep…Let’s see who’s next!
BASTILLE – OF THE NIGHT
SUNSHINE DAY AND NIGHT
LA based artist Hadley Holliday states in her press release that her creative art process begins with a pencil line drawing of a precise geometric arrangement of radiating circles that grows outwards towards a horizon line. Slowly, she begins to disrupt the visual balance by slicing lines through the circles and erasing sections. The image moves further away from geometric accuracy as the circles begin to distort the original form. The underlying structure breaks down as puddles of liquid paint that flow from one section to the next. A mix of hypnotic kaleidoscopic patterns, Holliday’s work is stunning and looks quite different in the space of a gallery than it does once she’s finished each piece in her studio. Holliday just wrapped her second showing at the Taylor De Cordoba last month where she featured an expanded palette of new works with vibrant colors – incorporating hues of gray, pink and gold. Within these patterns, sections of raw canvas remained exposed and function as negative space and contrasting clouded or darkened areas of oil paint and metal leaf.
I’m so excited to find and here this new track from one of my favorite groups from 2011. Metronomy is back with an interesting new single “I’m Aquarius” from their soon to be released second album, ‘Love Letters’ out March 10, 2014. I love Joe Mount’s smooth, lazy vocals and catchy chorus while the British front man croons astro-speak about being an Aquarius (even though he’s a Virgo) over warm synths and a kickass back beat. Interestingly enough, the track is available via the Night Sky app for iOS for Android or on itunes. The app “provides a beautiful, magical way of identifying the stars, planets, galaxies, constellations and even satellites in an awe-inspiring visual way,” according to a press release. In order to hear the song, you have to go outside, look at the stars and find the Aquarius constellation.
METRONOMY – I’M AQUARIUS
Maison Martin Margiela does it again with another stellar collaboration with Converse. Both the Chuck Taylor All Star Hi and Jack Purcell styles get remix in Maison Martin Margiela’s signature crispy white but with a twist…the kicks have been doused in brilliant white paint that creates a very cool wrinkle effect to showcase the vivid base colors — Crimson Red, Black, True Navy and Vintage Sunflower Yellow (a color exclusive for the Martin Margiela collaboration) underneath. As they wear, each will chip and peel differently to make an entirely unique shoe look unlike any other. The Maison Martin Margiela x Converse Sneaker Collection is part of Converse’s First String Collection available now – that’s so Margiela!
Cat lovers brace yourselves…Check out the wacky, new video for Melbourne’s Midnight Juggernauts called “Systematic”. Directed by Mrzyk & Moriceau, the video features an awesome mix of frisky felines flying, falling and strutting their stuff. Hopefully no kitties were harmed during this video…Just beware of the cat butt!! If you like Pacific!, Hot Chip or Fortune, check out their latest release ‘Uncanny Valley’.
Although summer is officially over, Flight Facilities is still pumping up the sunshine beats and on heavy rotation here. Their latest single, “I Didn’t Believe” featuring the lovely Elizabeth Rose on vocals is a groovy disco-like track that will make you move and shake! The Aussie duo made up of Hugo Stuart Gruzman and James “Jimmy” Nathan Lyell began mixing various songs by other artists in 2009 out of Sydney. In 2010, they scored an international hit with “Crave You” which featured Giselle. Take a listen and check out their vintage Soul Train video when you can.
FLIGHT FACILITIES – I DIDN’T BELIEVE FEATURING ELIZABETH ROSE
Autumn is finally here! Keeping warm is essential while still looking sharp. Take a peek at the Fall / Winter 2014 collection from David Naman. Naman introduces a collection that’s a fresh take on the contemporary essentials for menswear. Boasting rich autumnal colors and on-trend details, he focuses on it impeccable fit, smart blazers that feature narrow lapels and some color blocking. Super styled outerwear pieces like the dufflecoat are updated with quilted sleeves and the collection’s rounded out by knitwear in cheerful colors and cropped pieces like the trench – a solid and wearable line that’s not too fashion-y but delivers a sensible look.
Take a moment to listen to this lovely new track from Swedish crooner Erik Hassle. Not to be confused with the other curly haired, blue-eyed soul ginger (Daley), “Talk About It” is a spaced out r&b track that showcases Hassle’s silky voice which, this time around, pulls in a vocal hook sounding slightly reminiscent of what you’d expect to hear from Frank Ocean or Drake. Back in 2009, Hassle made waves in the UK and his native country with “Hurtful” another great song filled with emotion and top pop production was a hit with radio and music critics. Now, two years later he’s back with a well produced new single and hopefully a new LP in the near future – Lovin’ it!
ERIK HASSLE – TALK ABOUT IT
Check out these stunning kicks from HUF…The low-top sneaks feature canvas made construction and showcase the white polka dot design on navy with red sole to compliment. Fit with tonal laces, this minimal shoe says comfort with subtle style. Since this shoe is from HUF’s Holiday 2013 footwear collection, the shoes are inspired by skateboarders Dan Plunkett, Josh Matthews, and Peter Ramondetta and their respective sponsors: Thunder Trucks, Think Skateboards, and Spitfire Wheels.
I’m a sucker for a great mashup and here’s one for your listening pleasure…Check out Whinnie Williams’ awesome mix of two other worldly classics – “Bills Bills Bills” from the then baby diva threesome, Destiny’s Child and “Temps de L’amour” from iconic french chanteuse, Francois Hardy. Mixed together as an acoustic washed mashup, the British Williams soars breathing life into both songs with her 60′s-esque vocal stylings…Happy Happy Wednesday!
WHINNIE WILLIAMS – BILLS BILLS BILLS VS. TEMPS DE L’AMOUR

I’m absolutely in love with this new track from Laura Groves! “Easy Way Out” is a dreamy, lush sounding song that brings back that early 90′s Sarah McLauchlan style of female vocalist but in a much cooler way. Groves makes pretty music with light folk and electronic infused beats on her latest ‘Thinking About Thinking’ EP. Even with the late night Dif Juz sax that’s added works! If your a fan of Kate Bush or Groves past band the Blue Roses, Check it out.
LAURA GROVES – EASY WAY OUT
San Francisco-based Klari Reis took a personal health issue in her youth and turned it into works of vibrant, visual art! Reis had been diagnosed with Crohn’s Diease and from her curiosity with the interactions that her blood had to various chemicals in petri dishes, she pursued that interest through studies and experimentation by combining science with an exploration of colors and textures. Her artwork features unpredictable reactions as a representation of microscopic cellular work installed in circular or amoebic clusters that contain combinations of 150, 60, or 30 plastic dishes. The bursts of brightly colored powders, oils, acrylics and industrial dyes is stunning to the human eye and are quite beautiful in design but also alien in appearance. Also check out her daily blog of petri art!
Clemens Bacher aka Cid Rim, the producer, free jazz drummer, tutor and multi-instrumentalist has mad skills when it comes to creating a fresh sound of electronic music that stands out on its own. Hailing from Vienna, Bacher’s complex musical stylings are featured here in his video for “Fade” – a lively track that showcases Bacher and his drum set in a vivid display of mesmerizing, confetti-addled prowess. You can’t fight this groove of awesome!
For Fall / Winter 2013, Wings + Horns draw inspiration from the modernist youth movement of late 50′s London. The collection features customized knits, wovens and even tartans that marries textured wools and cottons with three seasonal colorways — oxblood, camel and deep sea blue to reinforce cohesiveness throughout. Originating between Vancouver and Tokyo, Wings + Horns was founded in 2004; aspiring to combine Canadian elements with Japanese quality and classic fits with a utilitarian style.
Here’s a lovely new Autumn track from UK mystery woman Fe. “Giddy Up” is a solo release following a slew of other silky, piano focused tracks featured on her soundcloud and facebook pages with a few DIY videos to match. “Giddy Up” is pure magic that’s sprinkled with a catchy hook and an easy breezy flow of hip hop beats and warm string arrangements. Of course you’ll hear comparisons to Lana Del Rey, Mazzy Star or even Fiona Apple – either way It’s infections and Fe is creating some musical witchcraft here! Not too much on Fe in the form of background or where she came from at this time but I’m hooked. Can’t wait to discover more.
FE – GIDDY UP
Originally launched as a denim line back in 1968, Sisley, the Italian design house was born in Paris and soon thereafter became part of the Benetton Group in the late 70′s. Since then, the brand has created a stylish voice for itself designing fashionable staples for men and women with a twist worldwide. For Fall / Winter 2013, Sisley showcases a modern, urban lifestyle collection that reads a bit of American rock and roll with a taste of chic, sophisticated European styling. You’ll see retro style frock-coats, skinny suits with tailored trousers, jackets with asymmetrical zippers and playful takes on classic versions of button up shirts, vests and accessories featured in bright splashes of yellow, green and blue…lots of blue! There’s even a few prints shown in traditional check and stripes for the more subtle dresser.
With all the Twitter drama floating back and forth between Sinead O’Connor and Miley Cyrus, Check out this surprisingly gorgeous mashup by Robin Skouteris calling it simply, “Nothing Compares to Wrecking Ball”. Let’s hope this helps smooth things over between these two strong-willed Sagittarian Divas! You can download the version through his website for continuous play…Enjoy!

Stellar and genius are the words that come to mind when describing this great video from Toro Y Moi aka Chaz Bundick for his third single “Rose Quartz”. This just happens to be my favorite track from his album ‘Anything In Return’ and Bundick has ventured into new artistic ground with this ultra cool video that paints him in full, whimsical color on canvas – conceptualized, directed and painted by Lauren Gregory. Check it out…It’s that good!
So so def…Check out these stunning kicks from Maison Martin Margiela 22…The Premiere High Top is a rubber and leather sneaker that features small black pyramid-like studs throughout with black lace-ups, a tonal logo patch at the tongue, cut-out collar and off-white lining. I’m in love with these but they come with the Maison Margiela pricetag. Is it too early to ask Santa?
Happy Saturday! Check out this very Michael Jackson-esque track by Dornik called “Something About You”. The smoothed out, textured vocals and wave washing r&b like back beat makes me wonder if MJ was alive today, would this be have his future sound.? Although I wasn’t the biggest MJ fan, there was always an uplifting sweetness to his voice on his ballads that no one can deny. There isn’t much on the web about Dornik Leigh who hails from London, England but for now, all you need is this…If you’re into The Weeknd or Frank Ocean, this is a must!
DORNIK – SOMETHING ABOUT YOU
WHITE NOISE MIAMI
WHITE NOISE 3
Check out the stunning visual works from Seattle native, Cait Willis. Willis has been creating art since the early 90′s and upon graduating from Cornish College in 1999, has been quite active in the local art scene there. For her most recent set of work, She states that her paintings draw inspiration from pop culture and the rhythm of white noise as an investigation into the smart media gadgets of our time and their technical randomness. By giving name to these mediums through her art, Willis uncovers the deeper side of it all – as painting and pop culture collide, a loss of personal contact in our work and personal relationships is the result. Her work has been recognized nationally and internationally at such galleries as Pop Santa Fe, 63 Bluxome Street Gallery in San Francisco and The George in Prague, Czech Republic. Currently Willis is gearing up for her next show entitled, “Glitch/White Noise” at the Ghost Gallery in Seattle set for September 12- October 7, 2013. Check it out!
