It’s now trendy to draw musical inspiration from 80’s and 90’s r&b and early alternative / electronic bands from that era but not everyone can get it right and do it proper! Take UK’s Adam Bainbridge aka Kindness who has just released his follow up to 2012’s ‘World, You Need A Change Of Mind.’ ‘Otherness’ is a continuation rich with jazz, soul and those vintage beats that were oh so heavy in the past. This record is an easy listen since it features a number to top notch guest spots from Robyn, Blood Orange (Devonte Hynes) and the luscious Kelela and Ade. Take a listen to “Who Do You Love” which is a sweet standout track that features everyone’s favorite Swedish pixie, Robyn on vocals. Pretty much anything with Robyn on it is gold – Love it!
KINDNESS – WHO DO YOU LOVE FEAT. ROBYN
Fall 2014 is shaping up to be all about big, bold color! Check out these stunners from Gucci as they unveil this exclusive collection of trainers. Designed in soft leather with a logo-embellished optical white rubber sole, the kicks reveal a familiar sport shape with contrasting leather effects that are available in three glowing neon colors – green, yellow and orange. Very excited to see something different from this label that’s more playful and accessible.
Check out this fantastically epic video from Ten Walls aka Marijus Adomitis. Adomitis a Lithuanian producer and DJ who also records amazing electronica-laced dance music as Mario Basanov, states that his new project as Ten Walls is a “darker and more experimental alter-ego” for him and it doesn’t disappoint. “Walking With Elephants” is as big as any track can get paired with this stellar video that’s sure to captivate! Take a peek and enjoy! Looking forward to more from this talent and hopefully catching him on tour this season!
If you haven’t already ran out to get your copy of the new Kimbra record, make it happen! This wild and slightly psychadelic sophomore effort from one of New Zealand’s most talented singer / songwriters is set to grab your attention this year! “Miracle” is a catchy track with big pop potential and is one of the most radio friendly songs on ‘The Golden Echo.’ Her debut album ‘Vows’ was one of my of my top 20 albums from 2010 and here she’s breathed new life into her artistry by changed it up big time. Throughout the album, Kimbra purrs and koos like she does, showcasing her amazing vocal range while her band really goes above and beyond creating new takes on modern electro-pop, r&b, jazz and soul music. A super diverse album, Kimbra must have gotten bit by the Prince protege bug since most of this album feels like his Purple Badness had to have some kind of influence secretly producing tracks under one of his many monikers…and that’s not a bad thing. It really does have a ‘Around The World In A Day’ feel to it. Take a listen to “Miracle” and tell me what you think!

Spanish born artist Francisco Jose Coca Gallego otherwise known as Fran Coca, seems to keep a low profile, creates explosive visions of color! Coca, who received his BA at at the University of Salamanca just outside of Madrid, has an eye for abstract, vivid imagery that’s captivating and dreamy. Although a seasoned professional in his craft, I can’t help but draw similarities to vintage Vaughn Oliver / 4AD album artwork but with more twists and turns birthing a palette that is much more rich and diverse. Fran Coca has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions all over Spain and today continues to produce new bodies of stunning work.
One of the most successful and influential female artists to come out of the UK is back after a two year hiatus. Adele returns with a new single and album slated for an Autumn release. The new track, “You’ll Never See Me Again” is good and somewhat familiar sounding, taking cues from her previous catalog of love lost and pro girl power anthems. But the new album, ’25’ does boast of a showcasing a newer side to Adele who brought back her winning team of writers but also is working with London’s Naughty Boy aka Shahid Khan who took us there with his fantastic debut release ‘Hotel Cabana’ last year which featured progressive tracks with Emeli Sandé, Ed Sheeran and his number one UK hit “La la la” which featured the then unknown “Male Adele,” Sam Smith. ’25’ is said to be filled with shocking surprises and should be quite different. Let’s see how much more she can elevate her level of awesomeness!
ADELE: YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN
Getting some great press and blog coverage for their stellar remix of Shura’s amazing track “Just Once,” the London based duo Honne have their own mega hit in the making. “Warm On A Cold Night” their debut single is infectious blue-eyed British soul. Much like Chet Faker, Citizen Cope or Brad’s Shawn Smith, Honne serves up a sexy chilled out track that goes down smooth just like a nice scotch! Not too much on the next about these fellas yet but there most certainly will be! Check it out!
HONNE – WARM ON A COLD NIGHT
Finally! The Swedish/Australian twin sister duo Say Lou Lou are gearing up to release their long anticipated full length early next year after a slew of dreamy, electro-ballad driven singles. The foxy Kilby sisters debuted a sassy new track called “Games For Girls,” which pairs them up with Norwegian Lord of space-disco Lindstrøm. The result – a flirty new style and sound that works. The track will appear on Say Lou Lou’s forthcoming album “Lucid Dreaming.” Check it out!

The future is now! Nike introduces it’s latest creation the Nike Blazer Mid Premium Iridescent High Top for Men and Women. Definitely on the flashier side of fashionable footwear, this kick features a leather upper with white detailing on the outer sole and its reflective, multi-colored look is cosmic! The Blazer was originally released back in the early 70’s and was Nike’s first basketball shoe. It also was one of the first Nike shoe to get a women’s specific version. Available online and at select retailers launching August 16th – trés futuristique!
Norwegian DJ / producer and king of retro house music Todd Terje got a sexy new remix of his nu-disco hit “Inspector Norse” from UK singer / DJ Little Boots and all I can say is it’s Hot Hot Hot to simply put it. The ‘Little Bootleg’ features Terje’s infamous spaced out disco beat with new vocals by Little Boots that’s gives it a sultry, sassy take with it’s catchy “Why you gotta be so hot?” lyric that will indeed be heating up the dance floors this summer. It’s track three on Little Boot’s latest mixtape for THUMP Records (So good!) and is available by free download on her site or via soundcloud – Get it. Love it!
TODD TERJE – INSPECTOR NORSE (LITTLE BOOTLEG)
Camo still reigns supreme this summer and Italian luxury brand Valentino keeps up the trend for his Spring / Summer 2014 Fluo Capsule Collection. The brand goes camo crazy – ditching the traditional concept of camouflage and giving it a remix with vibrant neon colors. The bright and quite wearable camo theme is applied throughout an array of items ranging from tees, shorts, button ups and windbreakers to killer footwear and bags for men and women. A new take on the age-old classic – I’m into it!
The U.K. right now is on fire with all the overwhelmingly high amount of fresh, new musical talent that’s making its way to mainstream. Check out this soaring track from London’s latest synth-pop trio, Vaults. Not much yet on this three-piece but the track is epic as “Lifespan” starts off with some faint, twinkling bells and then builds with dramatic drums and a great chorus with catchy hook. “Lifespan” is so captivatingly gorgeous it’s a must have on repeat. If you love a bit of Kate Bush, London Grammar or Florence and The Machine – this is right up your alley! Looking forward to more ear-goodness from Vaults to come.
VAULTS – LIFESPAN
Most everyone is familiar with envelope pushing New York photographer Terry Richardson and his ultra heightened world of porn stars, supermodels, transsexuals, pets and highbrow celebrities who bare all for his lens but not too much about Dian Hanson the woman behind Richardson’s book, Terry Richardson: Terryworld and so many other sexually provocative coffee table books. I thought I’d highlight something fun as I was unaware of Hanson and her many books on the topic of sex and the body. Her Big Book Series – Big Penis, Big Butt, Big Book of Breasts and the Big Book of Legs all contain beautiful and risqué photos of men and women showcasing their big assets. Each book features a well rounded and sometimes comical depiction of the world’s fascination with all things big that spans throughout history and across many cultures. Hanson tackles taboo and sexual obsession with interviews from models, porn actors, photographers and every day people. Hanson began her publishing career as an American pornographic magazine editor, historian, and occasional model. Since 2001, Hanson has held the position of Sexy Book editor for Taschen Books and continues to cover all sexually oriented titles for the company.
Now, I have to be honest I’m not the biggest Usher fan. Yeah, he’s got a nice voice and can take dance choreography pretty well but every now but he does have skills. Then someone will take a song of his and put it in flip mode, creating a remix that really gets my attention. Here, the brothers from Disclosure have done just that with his newest single, “Good Kisser.” The remix is out of control house goodness and it’s apparent that they are really stretching it out using top notch r&b / hip hop talent (Pharrell, Jay Z, Mary J. Blige) as new focus for creating uber fresh music with an even more commercial feel. Getting the red light first from BBC Radio 1’s hit making DJ, Zane Lowe who made this track his hottest record last week and it’s true…Check it out and play it loud!
USHER – GOOD KISSER (DISCLOSURE REMIX)
Color is back again for accessories and in a bold and cheerful way! Check out the new Pre Fall Bright Diamante Collection from Gucci. Dating back to when the world famous Italian fashion house started with it’s signature Diamante pattern on woven luggage in the 1930’s, Gucci gets visual and takes it to the twenty-first century with a fresh new take on it’s embossed leather goods for men and women. The eye-catching gear is now also available in happy hues of yellow, fuschia, blue, red, turquoise, snow white and of course basic black. The cost is still VERY Gucci but take a peek and discover new variations of products that range from messenger and duffle bags, backpacks, suit cases, wallets, belts, driving shoes and my favorites, the trainers – That’s so Gucci!

I’ve been rocking out to this lovely song for a few weeks now and it’s time to introduce you to Monogem! Headed by Jen Hirsh on vocals and Scott Smith on production, “Follow You” is a catchy one with dream-like vocals and a complex melody. This soulful-pop track is sheer musical goodness with bursts of electronica thrown in for good measure. Not too much background info on the LA based Monogem but you can hear more on their Soundcloud page. If you like Broods or Daughter, check them out…Looking forward to hearing more from Monogem as this track is already on repeat.
MONOGEM: FOLLOW YOU

It’s been a bit (two years to be exact) since Grimes was on the charts with her playful mix of electro-industrial pop. Now she’s back with a fresh new track called “Go.” This is the first new release since Grimes released her stellar 2012 debut on 4AD entitled ‘Visions.’ It’s said that this high energy EDM track was specifically written for Rihanna but sources say she turned it down. Debuting on Zane Lowe’s BBC radio 1 show after playing it live at the Govoners Ball Festival earlier this month, Claire Boucher aka Grimes has put it out there and can be downloaded from her website. Produced by Grimes’ longtime collaborator and fellow Canadian Blood Diamonds. “Go” could be a huge crossover hit and potentially take Grimes to the mainstream! Check it out!
GRIMES – GO
I’m loving this new Spring / Summer 2014 collection from Amsterdam-based footwear brand Filling Pieces. Showcasing an array of colors and styles for the season, Filling Pieces gives us options: Lowtops, Midtops, Hightops and Mountain Cut, Desert Boot and Broque Cut to suit your fashion needs. Unique in concept, “FP” makes a stand on their own with attention to detail, rich embossing, designer perforations and unexpected stitching. The brand launched in 2009 set to fill in the gap between street and high-fashion, owner and designer Guillaume Philibert Chin pushes the design envelope with minimalist creations that focus on high quality. All are handmade in Portugal using only the finest leathers, nubuck and other fabrics based on an Italian Margom vulcanized rubber cup sole. Nice fashion with affordable prices…can’t beat that!
I’m loving this deep house track and very Keith Haring-esque video from Zebra Katz. The 25 year old New York native Ojay Morgan is serving up some attitude with his lastest house banger “Tear The House Up.” Katz exploded on the dance and hip hop music scene a few years ago with his 2012 single “Ima Read” – a dark, deep baritone “bitch track” influenced by elements of New York’s black gay ball culture. “Tear The House Up” does it again with a sick beat and very fashion forward video that’s infectious. The song produced by Hervé and video directed by Brooklyn duo Ghost + Cow who are gaining attention for their off kilter video concepts, give us a bit of Missy Elliot with a little Busta Rhymes for good measure. I can’t help but also see actor Tony Todd from ‘Candyman’ the 1992 horror flick based on the novel from Clive Barker…It’s all up in this video!
It’s a given that during the summertime months when the weather is warm and the sun shines its rays of goodness upon us that we can’t help but be outside taking part in various outdoor hiking adventures, driving excursions and random bicycle jaunts around the city. Check out these stunning bikes from Abici Italia. What started out as a nostalgic tribute to 1950’s Italian artisan appreciation of vintage design and the love of biking turned a hobby into a full-fledged business amongst three good friends. Abici is handmade in Italy and brings back an elegance to retro styling and attention to detail. Cristiano Gozzi, Giuseppe Marcheselli and Stefano Seletti have created eleven models (for men and women) to suit their passion and offer a fantastic palette of colors to fit your mood; ranging from a subdued grey or flat black to a refined moss green or a lustrous robin’s egg blue. The build it yourself style of ordering gives you the option to get creative, presenting a wide range of pricing which makes it easy for you to custom your accessories when it comes to chains, baskets, seats and grips…Ciao Italia!
If you don’t know this up and coming artist, you better…MNEK is taking the music world by storm! The British singer/songwriter and record producer has written and produced killer top chart tracks for Gorgon City, Clean Bandit, Duke Dumont, Rudimental, The Saturday’s and Little Mix along with song writing credits for Kylie Minogue and a slew of others waiting to work with the lad. Not yet a name in the USA, MNEK born Uzoechi Osisioma Emenike (Em-En-Eee-Kay) started making music in his bedroom at the age of nine and had a publishing deal by the time he was fourteen. Now at only nineteen, he’s taking his love of electronic pop and r&b to the mainstream with his own signature sound of radio friendly dance tracks. His latest “Wrote A Song About You” is a super hyped house track that shows his wide range of vocals but also his smooth production skills. His sound: Think of Usher or Christ Brown partying all night long with Disclosure but with a flat top fade UK style! I’m loving this track and it’s on repeat – new song of the summer…Trust!
MNEK – WROTE A SONG ABOUT YOU
Take some time to check out this newly discovered and still relevant works of brilliance from Paris-born, French abstract artist Jean Miotte. Miotte’s work came of age just after World War II when non-figurative abstraction was on the rise in Europe as well as in the States. With his new way of creating artistic, bold and colorful visual expressions, Miotte worked with an array of formats on raw canvas and paper using acrylics, calligraphy, liquid jets and arcs of paint that were described as his take on the body in motion. Miotte’s work style is now known as ‘L’Art Informel’ and has been featured at numerous gallery and museum exhibitions over the past thirty years. His works are currently preserved and studied at the Miotte Foundation which is part of the third floor at the Chelsea Art Museum in Manhattan.
Fresh new music is out from Britain’s Mercury Prize-nominee, Jessie Ware. After her strong debut album ‘Devotion’ exploded with rave reviews mixed with a ton of great collaborations, she’s back with a new single for her sophomore release out sometime later this year. The track “Tough Love” is an easy, mid-tempo elctro jazz-tinged pop track with a twist. Taking on the popular vintage drum beats and high falsetto reminiscent of various early 80’s top hits by Prince (1999 and Purple Rain era) “Tough Love” sounds on-trend synth-pop wise and brings her version of sexy to the masses. A welcoming lead single to her well anticipated next effort.

Wanna see what absolute madness looks like? Check out this crazy video for “Turn Down for What” from William Grigahcine, an up can coming French DJ and producer better known as DJ Snake. Pairing up with the one and only Lil’ Jon on vocals, “Turn Down For What” features film making duo The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) who bring to life a stunning visual assault for the track which stars one of the directors Daniel Kwan. The video shows Kwan pumping and grinding away in mad a uber-sexed fashion and slowly spreads it throughout his apartment building with it climaxing at a late night dance party filled with horny, beat crazed party goers! It’s fun to watch!

Since Southern California is burning up these days from the intense heat I thought this Song of the Day is most fitting! Check out ultra hip, electronic pop band Mausi out of Newcastle. Fronted by Italian born siblings Daisy and Thomas Finetto, the group got together after meeting band mates Ben Brown and Benji Huntrods at University. Their latest summer time, feel good track “My Friend Has A Swimming Pool” is the perfect song for an already hot summer. The party track is filled with a catchy chorus and swirling sun-drenched keyboards and an infections beat. Play it loud…and stay cool!
MAUSI – MY FRIEND HAS A SWIMMING POOL
Les Hommes is the brilliant mens and womens wear label from Belgium launched four years ago by Tom Notte and Bart Vandebosch. Both graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and are said to be the best of friends inside and outside of fashion. Notte had a brief gig at Olivier Theyskens before teaming up with Vandebosch after graduation to start the Les Hommes label where it’s motto is to feature contrasting ideas and opinions about fashion and how to wear it. Presented here is their “Urban” Spring / Summer 2014 collection described as “contemporary with a twist.” The Les Hommes “Urban” collection is young brother to their signature line, giving way to a fresh look and easy wardrobe for guys on the go – playful with a bit of street edge. The line showcases their honest interpretation of colors, shapes and fabrications, while most of the line is clean and lean, offering stylish fit with splashes of color, leather accents and mixing it with uber smart sportswear that’s very now.
2014 is shaping up to be a stellar year of great music from a lot of my favorites now back on the music scene! Check out the latest from Elly Jackson and co-producer Ben Langmaid aka La Roux ,who has just released their latest effort “Let Me Down Gently” which starts out as a moody, slow burner before building to wash of synths, organs and percussion that swirl – a mellow first release, but a good one nonetheless. The British synth-pop duo is coming back after a five year hiatus. Their sophomore record, the followup to her eponymous 2009 debut, ‘Trouble In Paradise’ is set to be out this July and is on the top of my list!
LA ROUX – LET ME DOWN GENTLY

Right now the UK is heating up the charts left and right with more electro-soul / r&b acts that are getting major play on this side of the pond. Check out Sasha Keable and her latest track, “Living Without You” from her soon to be released EP ‘Lemon Grass & Lime.’ Keable’s strong and soulful voice may ring a bell as she was featured on last year’s internationally recognized debut album ‘Settle’ from fellow UK mates, Disclosure. The track “Voices” put her on the mark and now we can’t wait to discover more from this young chanteuse. “Living Without You” blends an 80’s vibe with a synth pop style for an easy breezy dance track. SASHA KEABLE – LIVING WITHOUT YOU
Loving this season’s Spring / Summer 2014 collection from Italian fashion label L.B.M. 1911. The casual chic menswear brand takes a nautical turn this time around and it works! While subtle sophistication has always been their signature style, they’ve reunited with handsome male model Maximiliano Patane who captures the essence of L.B.M. which is short for the brands full name, Lubiam. Founded in Mantova in 1911 by Luigi Bianchi Mantova, Lubiam is a company that knows how to renew itself remaining loyal to its tradition with strong ties to the region and to its culture. Full of sexual innuendo, UK based electro-pop lovely Indiana (like the state) hits strong with this sultry track called “Solo Dancing.” With a deep hypnotic beat, the video presents a number of suggestive imaging to go along with the dark disco track: parting curtains, spinning nobs and beating a big slab of meat, slaying a dragon, teaching a dog new tricks, stroking a kitty, shaking dangling fruit, yanking chains, feeding a beast and many many more. It’s quite clever and still pretty simple but all in all, nicely done. Directed by Rob & Rob, “Solo Dancing” is getting good hype since BBC Radio’s Zane Lowe called it one of the hottest records of the year so far. Check it out and the video too!
At just 20 years of age, Shift K3Y aka Lewis Jankel is on his way to having a top 10 chart hit with his super catchy house track, “Touch.” The London based singer/ songwriter and producer has already given his remixing talents to top notch artists from AlunaGeorge to Bastille and is now breaking out on his own. For this video, Jankel shows off his vocal skills in a high falsetto (à la JT or Robin Thicke) and leaves it all up to the energy of his hands with his leading lady! This house beat, garage heavy track is infectious and will command you to move! Can’t wait to hear more!
I love a great pair of high tops and these do not disappoint! Check out the latest from famed British designer Alexander McQueen. Made in Italy, these highbrow trainers include a rib quilted heel collar, the McQueen logo embossed in black leather at the heel and a white textured rubber midsole – Fresh!
Wow…Happy days are here again! Great to hear news of new music from the incredible Roisin Murphy. Here is her first new track in a long long time. “Ancora Tu” (You Again) is part of her latest project covering classic Italian pop tracks from the 60′s and 70′s for her new EP, ‘Mi Senti.’ The release is said to feature five electronic cover versions of Mina’s “Ancora Ancora Ancora” and “Non Credere,” Patty Pravo’s “Pensiero Stupendo,” Gino Paoli’s “La Gatta” and Lucio Battisti’s “Ancora Tu” which I’ve featured here today. The EP will also introduce one original song, “In Sintesti” recorded by Murphy. Once again, Murphy hits the mark and takes it over the edge as only she can by making this Italian pop classic her own; breathing new life through her sexy, emotional vocals while keeping it connected and current in a vintage 80’s pop kind of way. ‘Mi Senti’ is set to be released May 28th by The Vinyl Factory Records – Can’t wait!
ROISIN MURPHY – ANCORA TU
Fresh off debuting her newest pop single “Sweet Ophelia,” the Arizona native and now LA based Zella Day get’s a killer remix from jazz-infused, electronic r&b duo Marian Hill based out of Philly who takes Day’s track to a funkier new level. The original features Day’s ethereal voice paired against airy electronics and beats with layers of synths, pianos, and strings. Marian Hill aka Jeremy Lloyd (production and writing) and Samantha Gongol (vocals and writing) beef up “Sweet Ophelia” with their percussion heavy remix that twists and turns the original inside out, giving this track a very Lorde-esque vibe…and it’s fantastic!
ZELLA DAY – SWEET OPHELIA (MARIAN HILL REMIX)
Normally, I avoid the big bold and sometimes gaudy (in my opinion) looks from Italian fashion powerhouse Versace as they usually tend to be way too over the top. But this season for Spring / Summer 2014 features British model Edward Wilding looking cool, calm and refined in wearable pieces from Versace Collection. The brand revisits its past looks from their archive with opulent prints, vibrant colors and tailored ensembles all shown an updated twist. What’s visible here are their impeccable tailioring, fresh fabric choices and playing with neutral and sorbet flavored tones on shirts, jackets and suitings. As I love a cool accessory thrown for good measure, Versace showcases metallic accents, patent leather shoes and a mix of suede sandals paired with oversized leather and canvas handbags and iPad folders and cases.
